Windclan Camp

The camp is very well hidden, surrounded by a tangle of gorse. An old legend says that Windstar, the founder, scooped out a pawful of sand to make the hollow for the camp. There are no proper dens. The leader, apprentices, and warriors prefer to sleep under the open sky, although in bad weather, they retreat in burrows made by rabbits, foxes or badgers. The leader has a den behind the Tallrock, but he never sleeps there. The Tallrock is a large boulder used by the leader for special ceremonies. The elder's den and nursery are dens along the gorse wall surrounding the camp

Skyfeather laid in the shade of Tallrock as the greenleaf sun beat down on the land and more importantly, the camp. The she-cat's fur was light so it reflected the sun yet the season felt hotter than normal to the WindClan deputy. She watched with wandering eyes as the warrior Snakestrike padded into the camp and dropped a jaw full of rabbits into the pile, making it larger. It was a good greenleaf so far and Sky just hopped that it would last.

Skyfeather got up as soon as Crowclaw and Swiftpaw started insulting Snakestrike. She glared at the warrior, "Leave him alone," she hissed in a low voice, her tone turning cold. Her icy gaze then directed towards the tom's apprentice. "You should know better, Swiftpaw." Sky's voice was lighter than it had been for his mentor but held true disappointment. "Go check on the elders," she ordered. She also gave Crowclaw a glare and jerked her tail in the direction of the camp entrance, "Since you have enough time to make fun of your clan mates you can go make yourself useful by hunting."

Snakestrike turned his head in suprise and watched as the other cats scurried off. hauling his long lanky body up he padded over towards the deputy and dipped his head "thank you Skyfeather" he said humbly. his brown eyes watched her with a reservedness. his ginger pelt shone int he sunlight, the black spots glittering. he glanced up at the blue sky and murmured "the wind is playing with the clouds again, twill rain tonight"

Skyfeather dipped her head to her clan mate before looking up at the sky like he was. She watched how the clouds moved slightly faster than normal and were darkened some. It was only sun high so by the time the sun set she could tell they would be a stormy gray. She looked away from the clearing above and gave Snakestrike a small, "Seems like it will. Good eye."

The she-cat tilted her head in thought, "That's a good idea." Her eyes flicked over to stare at the large fresh kill pile in the center of the camp. There were a dozen or so rabbits piling up high and it would be difficult to stuff them all in a hole. But maybe they could store a rabbit in each den in case the storm laster longer then they thought it would.

Skyfeather padded after the ginger tom to watch what he was doing. Seeing his digging, the she-cat let out a small purr and flicked her tail to his flank. "That's brilliant!" she meowed. She bounded over to the pile and grabbed a few more rabbits, not as many as Snakestrike as her body was smaller, but enough that a dent was seen in the pile. She walked back over to the tom and dropped them into the hole alongside the others.

Skyfeather smiled softly at Snakestrike as he seemed to be happier than before. She sat down and watched him with her tail wrapped around her paws. But as soon as his body stiffened her body froze. "What is it?" she whispered in a fierce, demanding voice. Her deputy mode kicking in.

Trotting out of the nursery the small kit straightened out his whiskers and gave a rather loud mew. he wanted attention and he wanted someone to play with! he was completly naive to the dangers of the outside world. tilting his striped head he turned and saw snakestrike his green eyes glittered. snakestrike had always been nice to him! settling his tiny body into a neat crouch he began stalking his tail.

Skyfeather's tail twitched in annoyance, "I am not sending one of my warriors out there alone," she hissed. "Right now I'm in charge of this camp and no warrior will face dogs by themselves." The she-cat got up and paced for a moment, thinking. "Take three warriors with you outside the camp to lead the dogs away but do NOT, under any circumstances, go near those dogs."

Skyfeather smiled at Snakestrike but shook her head, "Direstar is not here to look after the camp and he left me in his place. I cannot leave in without someone to watch over the Clan." She nudged his shoulder softly, "Take Sunfur to go with you. She is one of our fastest runners." With that Sky padded over to where the yellow queen was laying in the sun and nudged her stomach, expelling what was going on. Sunfur nodded her head and trotted over to where Snakestrike was standing.

The newly made leader padded into camp tiredly, he flicked his ears at skyfeather in acknowledgement ignoring snakestrike he walked past him and toward the leaders den. desperate for some rest after the gruelling ceremony. curling up in his nest his eyes closed and fell asleep.

Snakestrike nodded reluctanly and turned giving a yowl to his cats he began trotting off heading for the moor. his amber eyes glittering with challenge.

Skyfeather watched as the cats left worriedly. She really hopped that they would be okay on their own. Her head swiveled towards Direstar's den and was able to see the tip of his tail disappear. With a sigh, the queen padded over to the nursery to talk to the queens about keeping the kits inside until the patrol of warriors returned. As soon as she was done talking to the mothers she saw Rosethorn pad into camp with prey in her jaws. When asked the food question she pointed to the hole she and Snakestrike had made, "Snakestrike and I made a hole over there so that they prey wouldn't get too soaked when it rains. And Direstar just returned but he is resting in his den at the moment. It must have been a long night for him."

returning with the patrol, snakestrike limped into the camp. his eyes glittered with a little pain. the rest of the cats were fine, Adderwhisker told Skyfeather that he had saved sunfurs life by attacking one of the dogs when she had tripped over a root. flickin his tail snakestrike slunk into the medicine den to get his wounds seen too.

Skyfeather nodded to Adderwhisker with a strained smile. She was glad her warriors were safe but Snakestrike didn't seem so fine. After dismissing the tom, the she-cat padded after Snakestrike into the medicine den. "Are you all right?" she asked worriedly.
